Luke Sayers, who has coordinated the marketing efforts for the past
four years at Ohio University, has been added to our athletic administration
as assistant athletics director for corporate sales, marketing and
promotions.
Sayers begins his new duties Nov. 14.
"Everybody who met Luke during the search
process was extremely impressed with his potential for Tennessee
Tech athletics," says Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. "He
has the right kind of experience, he's energetic and a real go-getter,
and he understands the direction we're working toward with this
athletic program."
In his new role, Sayers will oversee Athletics'
corporate sales program, including arena and stadium signage, advertising,
game sponsorships and additional sales opportunities. He'll also
direct season ticket sales campaigns and the marketing and promotions
efforts for the university's 16 Division I sports programs.
At Ohio, he worked to enhance the atmosphere at
home events including the introduction of the "O Zone,"
Ohio's premier student cheering section, created marketing plans
to ensure that the ticket sales message effectively reached target
markets, oversaw all advertising efforts, supervised game day promotions,
and managed the department's corporate partners as well as coordinating
efforts with International Sports Properties.
"I am really excited about the opportunity
to work with the Tennessee Tech athletics department and assist
in the growth of the program," Sayers says. "This position
also allows me to grow professionally while implementing new concepts
to enhance Tech athletics. I am thankful for this opportunity to
work in a great athletic department as part of an outstanding university,
and look forward to becoming involved in the community."
Wilson is familiar with Sayers' accomplishments
at Ohio, as the two were on the same staff for four years.
"Luke has clearly demonstrated a strong work
ethic, positive attitude, and reliability," says Wilson. "He
will represent himself, the athletics department, and Tennessee
Tech with the highest manner of professionalism."
Sayers, a graduate of Ohio's sports science program,
served as marketing coordinator at Ohio from 2001 to 2004, and was
promoted to director of marketing in 2004. He has also served as
the assistant tournament director for the Mid-American Conference
field hockey and wrestling tournaments, and as facility manager
for the American Legion State Baseball Championships.
