Not too early to plan for Varsity Short Film Fest

Screenwriters, directors, actors: Gear up now if you want to make the submission deadline for our second annual Varsity Short Film Festival.

Sponsored by the Volpe Library and Media Center, the festival is set for March 17, 2006. But you have to enter your masterpiece by Feb. 17. The event is open to all faculty, staff and student filmmakers.

Pat McGee, coordinator of media services, says the event is a great opportunity for filmmakers still learning the art.

“There are many creative people on campus who have an interest in filmmaking,” she says. “We hope this film festival will provide an outlet for their creativity and promote the use of the Volpe Library multimedia studio, where students can both film and edit their work on a non-linear editing station.”

Films should be between three to 15 minutes in length. They can be submitted in DVD format and dropped off at the Media Center, located in the basement of the Volpe Library. Studio facilities in the Media Center are open for viewing.

Entries will be judged by faculty members in Chemistry, English and History. Awards will be made for "Best Film" and "Audience Choice," depending on the quality of submissions.

For more information, call McGee at 3544.
