| Educators
interested in learning how to enhance their teaching with the use
of technological tools can explore that opportunity at our fourth
annual Technology Day, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb.
9.
“Technology Day is a way of helping to spread
the application of technology in order to enhance learning opportunities,”
says Stacey Crook, an event organizer. “It’s a way of
encouraging faculty and other local educators to become more interested
in the interaction of technology and learning, because technology
is a tool that can enhance both the teaching and learning experiences.”
The theme of this year’s event, sponsored
by our Institute for Technological Scholarship, is “Intersections
of Learning and Technology,” and it will feature hour-long
workshops contained within five topical tracks.
Those tracks include academics, digital content,
tablet computing, software demonstrations and e-learning day.
The e-learning day track is the only one in which
participants are committed to attend for the full day. It is aimed
specifically for campus trainers, instructional design or faculty
development specialists, and seating for it is limited.
All other track workshops can be mixed and matched
according to each participant’s interests. Workshop topics
include reducing workload, making home movies on the tablet PC,
podcasting and more.
A featured highlight of Technology Day will be
a luncheon keynote address by Roger Hanley, vice president of academic
strategies at Elluminate Inc., a company that provides the synchronous
virtual classroom used by TTU.
Technology Day is free and open to everyone. There
is a $10 charge for the luncheon, however. For more information,
a full workshop schedule and online registration, visit the event
web site at webdesign.tntech.edu/~institute/TechnologyDay/index.html.
