Career Services launches mentoring program

The Office of Career Services has launched a service connecting TTU alumni to current students.

The new Online Career Network was established as a result of interest from students seeking out alumni for career advice and direction. The Online Career Network provides that connection – via a web-based service.

Here's how it works. Using a secure web-based student/mentor database, alums have the opportunity to volunteer to provide advice to students. The mentor simply completes a profile that lists information including college major and city of residence. Mentors then define how they would like students to contact them, and the number of contacts they wish to receive in a month. How quickly mentors are contacted by a student depends on the number of students in the major or field.

The Online Career Network provides students with valuable insight into gaining a foothold into their career. Other applications and benefits may include helping students understand the job market in a particular geographic area and recommendations on internship and co-op experience before graduation.

For alumni, the Online Career Network provides a connection to campus and the gratification of knowing they could help students meet their career goals.

Becoming a mentor is easy. Simply call or e-mail Career Services to request your secure mentor access. There is no charge to participate, and access to the system will be available within 24 hours. Contact Career Services at 3232 or career@tntech.edu or visit the Career Services web site at www.tntech.edu/career.
