PERSONAL BUDGETING — Two TTU Business Office employees, Cindy Mathis and Lisa Cowan, have found a way to combat rising gas costs by purchasing scooters to ride to work. Lisa lives in Chestnut Mound and rides her scooter to Cindy's house in Baxter. Watch out for the two cycle mamas as they commute to work each day down Hwy. 70.

HIS HONOR — Facilities painter Curtis Hayes has only been a member of the TTU community for the past five years, but he's already left us for a much more interesting job. The former painter in Facilities has been elected mayor of Livingston, his home town, and he takes office next month. Curtis is a former police officer and town alderman. He was, in fact, the first African-American resident to win an alderman's seat in Livingston, and when re-election time came around, he won by a landslide, at a record 76 percent of the vote. This June, when he won the mayoral election, he got more votes than his three opponents combined, becoming Livingston's first African-American mayor.

The "Tech personals" is an opportunity to publish your personal achievements and human interest stories. Please be sure your stories are accurate and in good taste. Keep them short and grammatically correct. If you're submitting news about another TTU faculty or staff member, clear it with that person first. Deadline is noon, Wednesday, the week of publication; here's a link to the Tech Times schedule. E-mail to the Tech Times or send by campus mail to Box 5056. The Office of Public Affairs is not responsible for the content of submissions and reserves the right to reject them.
