An article by Sharon Berk, Water Resources Center, appears online this week on the American Chemical Society's Environmental Science & Technology Research ASAP web site. The article, "Occurrence of Infected Amoebae in Cooling Towers Compared with Natural Aquatic Environments: Implications for Emerging Pathogens," will appear in print in a special December issue of Environmental Science & Technology journal. The ACS has also published a news release about the research in Environmental Science & Technology Online News.

Alice Camuti, Career Services, led a workshop at the National Association of Colleges and Employers annual conference, held in June in Anaheim, Calif. The workshop, "Attitude Makeover: How to Reignite Your Smoldering Employees," focused on providing supervisors with techniques to increase employee motivation and performance. The response was so favorable that Camuti was invited to conduct a virtual seminar — or "webinar" — to the national membership next February.

Three members of the TTU staff — Denise Colwell of Public Affairs, Evelyn Conner of University Advancement, and Gayle Donnell of Admissions — passed the Certified Professional Secretary exam in May. The three-part exam, offered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals, is recognized around the world as the capstone of secretarial professionalism.
