The
University of South Carolina is loaning us a couple of its musicians
for a trombone and piano recital here this week.
In a Center Stage show, Brad Edwards, trombone,
and Lynn Kompass, piano, will present a guest recital at 7:30 p.m.
on Friday, Oct. 20, at Wattenbarger Auditorium.
Edwards teaches trombone at the University of South Carolina and
holds the position of second trombone with the Augusta Symphony.
He has served with the United States Air Force
Concert Band in Washington, D.C., where he was twice featured as
a soloist. Some of the other ensembles he’s performed with
include the Baltimore Symphony, the brass choir of the National
Symphony and the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra.
Edwards has published a composition, Blue Wolf
(ITA Press), and two books, Introductory Studies in Tenor and Alto
Clef, “Before Blazhevich” and Lip Slurs: Progressive
Exercises for the Development of Tone and Technique (both Ensemble
Publications).
Kompass, who has been teaching at the University
of South Carolina since 2002, also maintains an active career as
a vocal coach, chamber musician and recital collaborator.
She has participated in the Steans Vocal Institute
at the Ravinia Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and the Banff
Centre for the Arts.
Kompass has performed within the past season at
Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, the Strings in the Mountain
Festival, University of Texas at Austin and the International Conference
of Arts and Humanities in Honolulu.
