Former
Tennessee Board of Regents member Noble Cody was recently honored
by the university with a naming ceremony for the Noble Cody Executive
Suite in our Roaden University Center.
The university chose to rename the Executive Suite
to recognize Cody's many accomplishments here, as well as his history
of service to the university and higher education. The ceremony
was attended by several dignitaries, including TBR Chancellor Charles
Manning.
"This is a man truly dedicated to TTU, to
education in Tennessee and to the Cookeville community," says
TTU President Bob Bell. "His service to all of these has been
enthusiastic, loyal and long-lived."
Cody was inducted into our Sports Hall of Fame
in 1989 as a non-athlete for his support to the athletic program.
He organized the Tennessee Tech Athletic Foundation and served as
its president for four years, helping to raise almost a quarter
of a million dollars for scholarships.
A member of the Tennessee Tech University Foundation
and President's Club, Cody served as an effective advocate to secure
approval to construct a new facility to accommodate our School of
Nursing. He also served on the Cookeville City Council.
The naming of the suite in his honor is just one
of several times the university has shown appreciation for his service
over the years. He has received honors including the Distinguished
Service Award from our Associated Student Body in 1977 and the Outstanding
Service Award from our Alumni Association in 1981.
Cody was appointed by Gov. Don Sundquist to the
TBR in 2000 for a six-year term, representing the Sixth Congressional
District. Cody served as chair of the Personnel Committee from July
2003 until June 2006.
