“Using
Instructional Technology to Create a Visualization Laboratory”
will be the topic of an ASEE/Oakley STEM Center brown bag lunch
seminar at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Room 304 of Clement Hall.
As an addition of TTU’s already existing
environmental scanning electron microscope, funded by the National
Science Foundation, the Engineering Development Foundation last
year provided funding to establish a visualization laboratory.
The purpose of the Jan. 30 seminar is to show
ways instructors can use the new facility, which is available to
all instructors and researchers on campus, to enhance teaching and
learning in their courses.
The new visualization laboratory’s instructional
tools include a high-resolution digital projector, document camera,
laptop computer, projection screen and switchgear that integrates
the devices with microscope output and the Internet.
That integration makes it possible for large groups
of students to simultaneously view microscope output and to interact
with the instructor and/or microscope operator.
“It greatly enhances our ability to provide
a rich educational experience during demonstration activities in
the ESEM lab,” says Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering
Donald P. Visco.
Chemical Engineering Professor Joseph J. Biernacki
will facilitate discussion during the seminar.
For more information about the seminar, call Visco
at 3606 or e-mail him.
