Campus Relay for Life teams forming

The TTU community is getting ready to join others across the nation in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, the nation’s largest fund raiser.

Relay For Life is a non-competitive, overnight event. Teams are recruited from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools and service organizations. Each group comes up with a team theme, and members take turns walking or running around a track during the night. Games and activities held during the event make it a festive occasion.

“We invite everyone in the TTU community to be a part of Relay For Life,” says Ruthie Kinsey, team recruitment chair. “Where else can you show your enthusiasm for such an important cause by creating outrageous team themes, decorating campsites, and playing games all night long?”

TTU will be participating in RFL in two ways. First, on April 20, TTU will be hosting a Campus Relay allowing individual students and campus student organizations to get involved in the fight against cancer. Students interested in participating in this year’s Campus RFL can e-mail event chair Stacey Saylor at sdsaylor21. Department chairs and student group faculty advisors are encouraged to pass this information to their respective groups.

TTU will also be recruiting members for a faculty/administrative and support staff team for the Putnam Co. Relay for Life to be held at the Fairgrounds on May 11. TTU employees can contact Eric Brown at elbrown for more information about joining. In conjunction with this effort, TTU faculty staff and students can visit http://www.tntech.edu/relayforlife for current information about the two RFL efforts.

Money raised from the events support American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient services programs in Putnam County.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.
