Annual Health Fair set for April 10

They are at it again — organizers are planning an annual health check that's fun, convenient and affordable for everyone on campus.

On Tuesday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Campus Recreation will be hosting the annual Campus Wide Health Fair. Also, Cookeville Regional Medical Center will offer two days of blood work and vascular screenings on April 10 and 11. The mission is to promote wellness, make available free or low cost health services, and provide information in a fun and interactive environment.

"We have heard from so many people who were made aware of potential life-threatening health problems during the 14 years we've hosted the health fair," said David Mullinax, director of Campus Recreation. "But, because they made a choice to participate in the blood screening, they were able to begin taking proactive measures, along with their physician, to prevent future health problems."

In fact, at TTU's Fall Health Check, more than 31 percent of participants found out they had borderline cholesterol levels and more than 11 percent had elevated levels.

Valuable health-related information will be provided by area businesses and TTU departments and presented in a free or low cost, fun and interactive way. A few of the topics that will be addressed are blood pressure, blood chemistries, posture screenings, cancer awareness, healthy heart, and fitness.

Cookeville Regional Medical Center will be conducting blood and vascular screenings. Blood work is available 7 a.m.-10 a.m. and the vascular screening is available 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 11.

Appointments for these two screenings will be taken and can be made by calling the Health Fair Appointment Line at 372-6511. A list of all tests that will be available, as well as associated costs, can be found on the Fitness Center web site.

Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase. Door prizes and freebies for all attendees will be offered at many of the booths. All employees should have received a registration form in campus mail. For complete details, visit the Health Fair web site.
