Tennessee Tech University’s Garden Club is hosting its annual
plant auction at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the Hyder-Burks
Agricultural Pavilion.
The sale benefits the School of Agriculture and
the two annual $1,000 Ruby Marson Horticulture Scholarship Awards.
The Garden Club makes the scholarship awards each
year to upperclassmen completing course work leading to a degree
in horticulture or nursery and landscape management at TTU. Criteria
considered in awarding the scholarships are grades, financial need
and other scholarships received by the candidate.
A wide variety of trees, shrubs and ornamental
plants will be available, and the public is invited to view the
plants prior to the auction.
Garden Club members provide some of the plants,
while others are produced by the TTU School of Agriculture or donated
by area nurseries and garden centers.
The purpose of the TTU Garden Club is to promote
an interest in the planting and care of home gardens and grounds
and to collect and share information on all topics relative to the
growing of flowers, trees, shrubs, fruits, vegetables and lawn care.
Free refreshments will be served to those attending the auction,
and Dr. Donald Tansil will serve as the auctioneer.
For more information about the plant auction or
