For more than 30 years, secretary Martha Smith has been a devoted employee of the Earth Sciences Department, acting as the “oil that keeps the department running smoothly,” says Larry Knox, geology professor.

“She is a strong advocate for the department and an especially good friend to the department’s majors,” Knox says. “She has always balanced the departmental books down to the penny (literally), making sure that our accounts are up-to-date and that everything is maintained properly."
