If you're looking for a creative outlet or a chance to learn something new, then a craft workshop this fall at Tennessee Tech University's Appalachian Center for Craft may be just the thing.

Workshops at the Appalachian Center for Craft include one in blacksmithing.

Classes are available for all skill levels, from complete beginner to professional studio artist.

Evening classes begin Sept. 17 and run from 6 to 9 p.m. one night per week through Nov. 13. Weekend workshops are also offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on Sept. 22-23, Oct. 20-21 or Nov. 10-11.

"We’re thrilled that so many people are taking advantage of the creative opportunities available through the Craft Center's workshop program," says Gail Gentry, the center's workshop and event coordinator.

Nineteen different workshops will be offered this fall at the Craft Center. They include wheelthrowing in ceramics, introduction to jewelry making, tool and cooking utensil making in blacksmithing, glass bead making, turning pedestal end tables in the wood studio, papermaking, stained glass, turning wooden bowls, primitive firing for ceramics, easy holiday earrings and more.

"The evening and weekend workshops are a great escape from everyone’s busy schedule," says Gentry. "Our visitors can immerse themselves in the studio environment of the Craft Center and leave with their own one-of-a-kind creations."

The Craft Center offers a 50 percent discount off of the workshop fee for university employees and students who register within a month prior to the workshop.

The Craft Center is located off Interstate 40 at Exit 273. To get there, take Highway 56 south toward Smithville for approximately six miles and take an immediate left after crossing Hurricane Bridge.
