Telecommunications at Tennessee Technological University is continuously working to bring you the most recent technology in telephone services.

Caller Identification Service

All student telephones are equipped with caller identification service. All you need to do is purchase a caller id unit and connect it to the line.

Dialing Procedures

  • To dial a local number, operator assisted call, toll free, or 1411 information, simply press 9 + number. No access code is needed for these type of calls.
  • To dial domestic long distance: Press 9 + area code + number, wait for confirmation tone, and enter your access code.
  • To dial international calls: Press 9 + country code + city code + number, wait for confirmation tone, and enter your access code.
  • To reach emergency services dial only 911.

We offer our housing students a $0.03 per minute rate on all domestic long distance calls. This rate is in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

In order for you to utilize our long distance service you will use a five-digit access code which can be obtained by visiting the Telecommunications Office located in the University Police Building, Room 114. Do not forget to bring your student identification or drivers license. A bill will be mailed to your campus mailbox each month, unless you prefer that your bill be mailed to your home address. Students, eighteen years or older, who prefer the monthly statement be mailed to a home address, should send us a written request with a mail to address, or come by our office any time to make a request.

Students should be aware that charges may be applied to your phone number when registering for sweepstakes or other services on the Internet. Should these charges appear on the Tennessee Tech bill, they will be passed on to you with a $15.00 fee. To avoid these charges, do not give your Tennessee Tech dorm phone number to any operator or Internet provider. These charges, as well as collect and 3rd party calls are not allowed.

To access or use any optional telephone or Internet service or offering, you must use your personal telephone calling card to do so. When applying for a personal calling/credit card do not use the telephone number in your dorm room for your calling/credit card number.


Voice mailboxes are installed to the Residence Halls by request only. Residents living in Tech Village will use their 4 digit extension as their voice mailbox number.

Steps for Inialization

  1. Dial 3000. If off campus you can reach the system by dialing 372-3000.
  2. When voice mail answers follow the prompts.
  3. The temporary security code is 111111.

Accessing your voice mailbox from your dorm room

Simply dial 3000 and when the system answers you will be prompted for your security code.
