Welcome!

Welcome to the Tennessee Educational Resource (TN-ER) Site, the premier source of information for Family and Consumer Sciences teachers in Tennessee. The TN-ER is a project of the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) in contract with Tennessee Technological University's School of Human Ecology. Original FACS resources coordinated with Tennessee approved FACS middle and high school courses are located here. Links to other resources including the TDOE are provided throughout the TN-ER. In addition to resources, strategies for the management of an effective FACS program leading to student success are made available. Place the TN-ER in your favorites and plan to visit us often.

Timely Tip

“Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect. We must each respect otherseven as we respect ourselves.”

U. Thant – Secretary-General of the United Nations 1961-1971

Choose Respect is an initiative to help adolescents form healthy relationships to prevent dating abuse before it starts.  This national effort is designed to motivate adolescents to challenge harmful beliefs about dating abuse and take steps to form respectful relationships.  Choose Respect reaches out to adolescents, ages 11 to 14 because they are still forming attitudes and beliefs that will affect how they are treated and how they treat others.  The initiative also connects with parents, teachers, youth leaders and other caregivers who influence the lives of young teens.  Choose Respect messages are supported by a variety of materials including eCards, posters, bookmarks, pocket guides, online games, television and radio spots, activity ideas, and clickable quizzes that inspire youth to choose respect.  The program also offers the award-winning video Causing Pain:  Real Stories of Dating Abuse and Violence, which features compelling stories of teens, parents, and professional who have been in or witnessed abusive relationships.

All of the Choose Respect materials can be viewed and/or downloaded from www.chooserespect.org.
