Import files from the web
[FP2000 icon]

FrontPage allows you to easily import files from different locations into your web directory.  If you already have an existing site on the web you can import those files into your new web directory by using the import web wizard.

  1. Select File --> Import
  2. The Import box opens as shown below

[Import box]

  1. Click the From Web... button
  2. The Import Web Wizard-Choose Source box opens as shown below

[Import Web Wizard - Choose Source box]

  1. Under Location: type the URL of the web site you want to download
  2. Click Next

[Import Web Wizard - Choose Download Amount]

  1. Uncheck the limit boxes
  2. Click Next
  3. Click Finish

FrontPage will begin to import the existing remote web.

Note:  FrontPage looks for certain things when importing a web so it may miss some files.  Some reasons for error are:

  1. If you do not have a file called default.htm(l) or index.htm(l) then FrontPage will not import anything.  FrontPage uses these files as a starting point and from this page it spiders out to the links on that page and imports those, and to the links on the next page, and the next page, etc...  If this file is missing FrontPage does not have anywhere to start.
  2. If you have files that are just in your remote web directory but not actually linked to anything, FrontPage does not see it and will not import that file.
  3. If you are familiar with FrontPage and used Shared Borders on an existing web site, the Shared Borders will not import.  You will either have to go to the remote site and publish the existing site to the new site or you will have to build the Shared Borders again in the Navigation view of FrontPage.
