Approval of Agenda as Revised

Dr. Eisen requested agenda item #13 be deleted, as it was a duplicate request of agenda item #8.  A motion was made to approve agenda as revised.  The motion was seconded and the motion carried.

Approval of October 30, 2003 Minutes as Revised  

A correction was made to change "Yvonne Good" to "Yvonne Gribble", under members present.

Approval of General Education Committee Membership Appointments

The following statement regarding the General Education Committee membership was requested for approval:

The Dean of Arts and Sciences chairs and serves as a permanent member of the committee. Other appointments will be made by the President upon recommendations of the Provost/Vice President based on recommendations by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Members  will serve three-year, renewable terms, staggered so that a third of the Committee is replaced or renewed each year.

Motion.  Dr. Mills, representing Dean Armistead, moved to approve the membership statement.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Stanger and carried.

Approval of  Wording Change for Awarding of Armed  Services Credit

 In a memorandum dated October 29, 2003, approval was requested for the following:

Change wording in the online (WEB) Undergraduate Catalog to read:  "Students...may
be given credit not to exceed the 8 hours (6 hours military service elective credit and 2 
hours physical education credit) for the military science course."

Motion.  Ms. Gribble moved to approve the wording change.  The motion was seconded by
Ms. Galloway and carried.

Proposal for BFA-Art Education Option & Curriculum from the Department
of Music and Art
  

Mr. Good requested that this agenda item be postponed until the April 15, 2004 meeting.

Approval of Curriculum & Course Changes from the Department  of Music and Art 

In a memorandum dated January 23, 2004, approval was requested for the following:

Curriculum Changes:  

  1. In the Bachelor of Music degree performance options of Instrumental, Jazz, Piano, and Vocal,  reduce the number of required credits in upper division applied study (private instruction) from six (6) to four (4) in both Junior and Senior years.
  2. In the Bachelor of Music degree performance option of Composition, reduce the number of  credits in MUS 3000, Composition, from six (6) to four (4) in both Junior and Senior years.

Course Change:
The notation:  "Prerequisite:  Successful Audition" needs to be added to MUS 1062, Madrigal 
Singers.

Motion.  Mr. Good moved to approve the changes with Spring 2004 being the first
date students may graduate under the 120-hour program.  The motion was 
seconded by Dr. Loutzenheiser and carried.

Approval of Course Addition from the Department of History 

In a memorandum dated January 15, 2004, approval was requested for the following:

Course Addition: 
HIST 4790 (5790).  Latin American Studies.            Lec. 3, Credit 3.
Selected topics in Latin American history.  A student may take HIST 4790 (5790) twice,
provided that the topic is different each time.

Curriculum Changes:
The Department of Chemical Engineering has implemented a B.S./M.S. Fast Track Curriculum
to encourage top students to continue with their education after completing their BS degree.  To 
make the undergraduate students more aware of this opportunity, particularly prospective students, recommended change to the ChE curriculum is to include how the senior year will be modified to meet the requirement of the B.S./M.S. Fast Track.
