REPETITION OF COURSES
A student may repeat a course which was previously
taken and received a final grade of "C" or lower. Students are permitted
to repeat a course in which a grade
of "B" or higher was earned only with the approval of the Provost and Vice
President for Academic Affairs.
Courses may be repeated with only the second
grade counting for the first 16 semester hours repeated. Any third and successive
attempts within this 16 hours will count in
the cumulative grade point average. (The total number of courses which can be
repeated without the first grade counting may be varied, with each counting in
succession up to a maximum of 16 hours.) All subsequent repeat hours will be
counted in the cumulative grade point average with the last grade standing as
the grade in the course. If a course is taken and repeated, then all subsequent
repeat hours will be included in the cumulative grade point average with only
the last grade for that course fulfilling the graduation requirement. This means
that you can have credit for a course only one time in the calculated earned
hours which apply toward the degree. The last attempt in a course is the one
used to fulfill the graduation requirement. Transfer students applying for
admission into the University will have their quality
point
averages
recomputed
with
regard to repeats; their admission and standing will be subject to the revised
average. Exceptions to this policy are students who entered this university or
any other accredited college or university prior to January 1, 1984, and who
were admitted or readmitted to TTU prior to spring semester 1993. For this group
of students, continuous enrollment through graduation (except summer sessions)
would be required. Students electing not to enroll for a regular semester or
those suspended would be subject to the current repeat policy upon readmission.
Prior repeats will not be removed, but no new repeat hours will be earned upon
return.
Although a course may be taken at another school after having received a
grade for the equivalent course at this university, it may improve the
cumulative QPA but not the Tennessee Tech average. This means that a course,
once taken at this university, may not be repeated at another school in order to
improve the grade average on courses taken originally at Tennessee Tech.
All grades received for a course will remain on a student's transcript. A
notation is added to indicate that the course has been repeated. The information
showing the grade received when the course was repeated is given in the report
for the semester during which the course was repeated.
