Students who begin their college Spanish studies at the intermediate level and who complete SPAN 2010-2020 with an average of at least 2.0 in those courses will, upon request, receive credit for SPAN 1010-1020 with a grade of "S." This provision does not apply to anyone who takes a proficiency test at the 2000 level for credit.

Courses used to satisfy high school deficiencies cannot be used toward completion of degree requirements.

Course restricted to Nursing majors or those with permission of instructor. Spanish language instruction for students entering the medical fields. They will learn the Spanish language--development oral, reading, writing, and listening communication skills--and knowledge of Hispanic culture necessary to be able to communicate with their future Hispanic patients efficiently and effectively.

No backgroung in Spanish required. This course is taught in English. Sophomore status or consent of instructor required. Introduction to Spanish cultural and intellectual history, geography and diversity, arts and the political and social structures and characteristics of Spain today. Credit will not be give for both SPAN 2510 and SPAN 3510.

uSPAN 2550. Latin American Culture and Civilization. Lec 3. Credit 3.
No background in Spanish required. Sophomore status or consent of instructor required. Introduction in English to Spanish Latin American cultural history, geography, cultural and ethnic diversity, art, music, literature and to the political and social structures that have shaped modern Latin America. Credit will not be given for both SPAN 2550 and SPAN 3550.

SPAN 3010. Advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition. Lec. 3. Credit 3.
Prerequisite: SPAN 2020 or equivalent. Grammatical expansion and analysis, study of idiomatic expressions, composition. Required for majors.

SPAN 3020. Spanish Conversation. Lec. 3. Credit 3.
Prerequisite: SPAN 3010 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. Oral presentations and conversation. Discussion in Spanish of current events and life in Spanish-speaking countries. Required for majors.

SPAN 3200-3210. Spanish for Business I & II. Lec. 3. Credit 3.
Prerequisite: SPAN 3010 or equivalent, or consent of instructor is prerequisite for 3200, 3200 is prerequisite for 3210.  Business vocabulary, readings in Spanish on various business topics and on culture as it affects business interactions and practices. Required for World Cultures and Business majors with language concentration in Spanish.

SPAN 4920. Senior Capstone. Ind. 3. Credit 3.
Prerequisite: Senior standing, completion of at least 21 credit hours in the core courses for the major. Students will work individually, under the guidance of a faculty member, to create a portfolio and prepare a presentation to faculty and other students. In this course, students will integrate, enhance and demonstrate the knowledge and skills learned during their undergraduate education in the areas of: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, writing and cultural literacy in the target language.
