ADMISSION
OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
UNDERGRADUATE STUDY
Tennessee Technological
University encourages its faculty, staff, and administrators to foster the enrollment
of qualified international students in suitable programs, to work with Embassies
and Sponsoring Agencies to attract students whose academic potential has already
been recognized in their home countries, and to provide appropriate services
for international students who enroll at the University. Admissions applications
for international students may be obtained from Tennessee Tech's website: (www.tntech.edu/international/).
An international
student is classified for educational purposes as a person who is a citizen
and permanent resident of a country other than the United States. Permanent
Residents of the US with less than four full years of regular high school
English will also be considered international students for English Placement
Testing purposes. Tennessee Tech University is authorized under Federal
law
to
admit
international students.
All international
students whose native language is not English must have an official Test
of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 500 (paper-based test)
or 173 (computer-based test) or 61 (internet Based TOEFL) submitted prior
to admission. The admission requirements
for international students applying to college for the first time are as follows:

Be
at least 16 years of age. |

Graduate
from a Secondary School. |
| 3. |
Demonstrate
competence in basic courses at the secondary level that are closely related
to the intended major program of study at the University. |
| 4. |
International
students who will be applying for a student visa complete the application
6 months in advance. Students who reside in the USA may apply up to one
month in advance. |

$30 non-refundable application fee. |

b. |
Official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score, 500 minimum
(paper-based exam) or 173 minimum (computer-based exam) must be forwarded
directly from the testing agency. Please use the institution code
of 1804 when requesting that scores be submitted directly to TTU. A score
of 490 will be acceptable on a probationary status and these students will
have a 2.0 cumulative G.P.A. by the end of the 2nd semester or leave the
institution.
Acceptance of Institutional TOEFL scores originating from Intensive English
Language Programs (copy accepted since only one copy is issued-guaranteed
by school administrator).
If TOEFL test scores are not available, then
alternative tests which can be submitted for admissions are: IELTS and
TOEIC. IELTS minimum of 5.5 = 500 on TOEFL and 620 on the TOEIC = to 500
on TOEFL. EIKEN and Cambridge are also accepted by TTU for admissions.
International Undergraduate students who complete advanced levels at
partnered Intensive English Language programs will be permitted to enroll
at Tennessee Tech University without the TOEFL score. These students
must meet all other requirement for admission at TTU. These students
must also take the ESL compass exam and the Math compass exam.

Submit ACT of SAT scores if available. |

Official academic records which include all courses and all years completed
at the secondary school level, grades earned, final examination scores,
and
diploma
or leaving
certificate. The admissions decision will be based on the student's own
educational grading system. All records should be in the original
language
with the institution's seal, accompanied by a certified English translation.
International Undergraduate Students with transfer credit from a university
or college from abroad are required to have all transcripts evaluated
by WES. Information about WES can be found at www.wes.org. The student’s
home institution is required to submit originals to WES.
Upon arrival
to TTU, the student must meet with the departments pertaining to their
courses to determine if the individual department heads will
assign credit in regards to equivalency of each class. The Office of
International Student Affairs is not responsible for the acceptance or
denial of coursework of the academic departments.

A bank document of the student's parent or sponsor verifying the student
has sufficient funds to sponsor their program of study. |
|
f. |
A letter from the bank where the funds are on deposit, indicating the availability
of the funds and the period for which the funds have been on deposit.
The
current estimate of academic fees and living expenses for a single student
is $24,450. Please note that this is an estimate only and that academic
fees and tuition are expected to increase annually. This estimate
includes tuition and registration fees, books and supplies, room rent,
meal
plan, grooming, required health insurance, recreation and travel, for
one academic year. TTU offers financial
assistance in the form of part-time work on campus at minimum wage with
a limit of 20 hours per week. Short-term loans are available in emergency
cases. Grants or scholarships available for non-immigrant F-1 or
J-1 students are extremely limited. |

Non-immigrant students graduating from a secondary school in the USA must
submit the following additional documents: |

A photocopy of the passport expiration date |
|
|
(2) |
A photocopy of the visa |
|
|
(3) |
A photocopy of the I-20, pp 3 & 4; or the DS-2019 |
|
|
(4) |
International Advisor's Reference Form. |

Complete
and submit student health form prior to the beginning of classes. With
proof of MMR 1 and MMR 2 inoculations and a TB skin test with a negative
result. |
International
Students will be admitted at least 60 days prior to the beginning of the
semester. An
F-l student should not leave home prior to receiving a TTU Certificate of Admission
and the I-20, Certificate of Eligibility. A J-l student should not leave
home
prior to receiving a TTU Certificate of Admission and the DS-2019,
Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status. These documents, as
well as the sponsor's letter and bank's letter, must be presented to the
visa
certifying officer at the American Consulate General's office in order to obtain
an F-l or J-l visa. Before applying for ones visa, student’s must
pay the SEVIS fee of $100 at https://www.fmjfee.com.
