The syllabus included here is only a SAMPLE.  It obviously contains more than can be done in one UNIV 1020 class.
Please note: You may not drop UNIV 1020.

UNIV 1020 will partner with another UNIV 1020 class where the students will read the same book and view the same movie.  In Week Thirteen the two classes will meet together to discuss their reactions to the novels and the movies.

Students must complete at least three hours of community service and hand in a journal recording their experience. 

Students must attend at least three cultural or informative events and write a journal on each experience.  (At least one of the cultural events should be a fine arts event and at least one should be a world cultures event, such as those offered in the Center Stage series.)

Students must attend at least three club meetings and write a journal on each experience.

In Week Six, English majors will discuss writing and speaking about literature and film. PC majors will discuss techniques for creating a brochure on UNIV 1020. Journalism majors will discuss techniques for writing an article for the Oracle.

Students with a disability: Students with a disability requiring accommodations should contact the Office of Disability Services (ODS).  An accommodations Request (AR) should be completed as soon as possible, at the latest by the end of the first week of the course.  The ODS is located in the Roaden University Center, Room 112, phone 372-6119.

Plagiarism: When you summarize, paraphrase (put someone else’s ideas into your words), quote, or borrow data from someone else, you must indicate your source. Failure to do so is plagiarizing.  Students who plagiarize will receive a 0 for the assignment.
