Tech retires jerseys of Christian, Hagan

Jimmy Hagan was one of the nation’s most prolific scorers for Tennessee Tech during his career from 1957 to 1960. Emily Christian etched her name in the school and Ohio Valley Conference record books for her brilliant career leading the TTU women’s basketball team from 2002 to 2005.

Both of those former Tech basketball standouts were recognized in January when the university officially retired their game jerseys and raised banners displaying their numbers in Eblen Center.

Christian’s number 40 now hangs with the six other women’s numbers on display for Pam Chambers, Jerilynn Harper, Cheryl Taylor, Angela Moorehead, Diane Seng and Janet Holt. Christian finished her career in 2006 ranked third in scoring with 2,314 points and OVC Player of the Year honors.

Hagan, a member of the TTU Sports Hall of Fame, finished his playing career nearly 50 years ago and still ranks sixth in scoring with 1,539 points and first in rebounds with 1,108.

Hagan’s number 42 is on display with numbered banners for Kenny Sidwell, Stephen Kite and Earl Wise.
