Baseball, softball schedules feature plenty of home action

Fans who like to spend time at the ‘ol ballpark will have plenty of chances in 2008 to watch the Tennessee Tech baseball and softball teams.

The Golden Eagle baseball team, under fifth-year head coach Matt Bragga, plays 34 home games in Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.

Next door on the Tech softball field, head coach Tory Acheson heads into his 10th season with a schedule that includes 22 home dates plus a long list of ranked opponents.

“The thing I’m most excited about in the coming year is our home schedule,” Bragga said. “We have 34 home games, and that’s huge. We have a great facility, and it will be nice to play so many games in our own facility.

“We also have a great non-conference schedule with some really good opponents, and every one of our nonconference weekend games is at home,” he said.

For the softball team, which is playing for its fourth consecutive OVC regular season and tournament titles, five tough tournaments featuring some of the top programs in the nation are featured in the 2008 schedule.

Tech plays 22 games at home, including a doubleheader against ACC foe Georgia Tech and visits from such nonconference foes as Belmont, Lipscomb, Charleston Southern and Middle Tennessee State.

Among the opponents lined up to challenge Tech on the road are such nationally known programs as Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Auburn and Tennessee.

Acheson’s team received votes in the 2008 preseason poll, while six of Tech’s scheduled opponents are either ranked or receiving votes.
