Cookeville Area Transit System (CATS) has undergone major changes since many Tennessee Tech students last stepped foot on campus.

The two revamped routes promise to reduce wait times and help students get off-campus for dining and entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.

The free service for all Tech faculty, staff and students now travels a new route that will help promote ridership.  CATS buses run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  On Friday nights the Green Route operates from 6 p.m. to midnight and Saturdays the Green Route operates from 6 a.m. to midnight.

“We are pleased with the recent changes in the Cookeville Area Transit System,” Phyllis Bennett, UCHRA executive director said. “These changes will allow us to accommodate a larger demographic.”

There are two routes running through town, the Green Route and the Purple Route.  The Green Route runs in a clockwise pattern starting at the UCHRA Hub and making its first stop at Wal-Mart.  The Purple Route runs in a counter-clockwise pattern starting at the Hub and making its first stop at Goodwill Shopping Center.

By making routes that travel in a clockwise and counter-clockwise pattern, there will be a new ease to riding the bus.  A bus runs every 30 to 35 minutes.  You’ll find bus signs on both sides of the road to check which direction the bus will be traveling for the rest of the route.

“The recent changes in the CATS will help us to better serve the people in the Cookeville and Tennessee Tech University,” Rebecca Harris, UCHRA transportation director said.

The Friday and Saturday night route will be a benefit to Tech students looking to travel off-campus for dinner and entertainment.  The route is derived from the day Green Route adding the Highland 12 Cinema into its trip.  This service will travel every hour starting at the UCHRA Hub.

You’ll find current route schedules at the Roaden University Center Information Desk and more information online at http://www.uchra.com/cats/index.html.
