NEWS
- Increasing student fees, tuitions and stipends are leading the Center to look for other sources of support for its graduate students. The Center recently established a graduate student endowment to help alleviate the professional travel and other costs its students incur. If you would like to donate, please follow the link at http://www.tntech.edu/annualgiving/home/ and mark your donation for the Water Center.
- The Center is once again taking the lead in making water-related technology and resources available to the public. The Center is teaming up with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Hydrologics Inc., and other universities through the Tennessee Watershed and Regional Water Resources Modeling program to offer Hydrologics' OASIS software on a statewide platform. This project comes as part of a response to the record drought of 2007 in which the State of Tennessee realized that the planning process for water resources needed to be evaluated to be better prepared for water limitations. The symposium was coordinated by the Center's environmental chemist Martha J.M. Wells; Larry Keith, of Instant Reference Sources, Inc.; and Christian Daughton and Tammy Jones-Lepp, of the National Exposure Research Laboratory of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency office in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was sponsored by the U.S. EPA and held in conjunction with the American Chemical Society's 228th National Meeting.
