Organic Appeal
Organic farming practices are growing steadily in Tennessee, but why the increasing interest in these new, more natural techniques? It's probably because these practices lead to healthier, safer produce for the consumer. Organic farming replaces the use of traditional fertilizers and pesticides with more natural techniques -- like planting cover crops that will be plowed back into the ground where they will increase nutrient content and contribute to healthier soils; introducing "good" bugs like ladybugs to prey on harmful insects that kill the plants; and using more natural bug deterrents (like vegetable oils) to further eliminate the need for potentially unhealthy pesticides.
"Good" insects like ladybugs help reduce the need for potentially harmful pesticides because they prey on other bugs that would eat the plants.
