Residency Verification FAQ

1. What does my status mean?

Residency Status:
In-State - Non-Verified You're marked as in in-state student, but you haven't verified that this is the case.
In-State - Verified Your residency has been confirmed to be within the state of Tennessee.
Out-of-State - Non-Verified You're marked as an out-of-state student, but you haven't verified that this is the case.
Out-of-State - Verified Your residency has been confirmed to be outside the state of Tennessee.
Border County - Non-Verified You're marked as living in Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Monroe, Wayne, or Whitley county in Kentucky, but you haven't verified that this is the case.
Border County - Verified Your residency has been confirmed to be within one of the approved Kentucky border counties.
Classification in Progress The Admissions Office needs you to fill out a Residency Form in order to apply for full in-state classification.


2. Why is it important for me to verify my residency?

Your residency can affect your tuition fees and your financial aid, so it's very important to ensure you verify your residency before the start of term!

3. What should I do to verify my residency?

The easiest way to verify your residency is to fill out the FAFSA. If you don't intend to fill out the FAFSA, you may submit one of the legal documents listed here.

4. What do I need to do if my status is "Classification in Progress"?

You'll fill out the Residency Form and submit it to the Admissions Office, along with supporting documents proving your residency. For further information on the process, click here.
