Admission Requirements

The College of Business is waiving GMAT and GRE testing requirements for all students who graduate with a 3.0 GPA or better (2.8 GPA for Tennessee Tech graduates). All other requirements should still be met for admission into the graduate program.

State and federal laws require colleges and universities to be authorized to offer online degree programs in states other than their own. Click here for a list of states where Tennessee Technological University is authorized to offer online degrees. If you do not see your state listed, you will be unable to enroll in any online programs offered by Tennessee Tech.

    Provisional Admission Requirements*

    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
    • Minimum score of 1,000 on the index formula
    • Submission of official GMAT or GRE test scores
    • ECON6050 must be taken within the first nine (9) hours of the student's program

    *Students admitted provisionally must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA on the first nine** (9) hours of core coursework.

  • MAcc Admission Requirements

    MAcc admission is open to qualified students with a bachelor’s degree and a major in accounting (or the equivalent) from an accredited institution. Consideration is given to the applicant’s work experience and other activities that demonstrate potential for successful completion of the program.

    The MAcc program enrolls students for both the one-year and two year tracks during the fall semester. However, limited start options (during the prior spring and summer semesters) are available for students who meet specific criteria. 

    Full Admission Requirements

    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
    • Minimum score of 500 on the GMAT (or GRE equivalent)
    • One letter of recommendation
    • Completion of an undergraduate degree in accounting (or the equivalent) from an AACSB-accredited institution.

    Provisional Admission Requirements:

    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale
    • Minimum score of 1,000 on the index formula
    • Submission of official GMAT or GRE test scores
    • Provisional admission requires that the applicant maintain a 3.0 GPA for the first twelve (12) hours of graduate credit or the applicant will be dismissed from the program.

    Fulfilling the above minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the Master's of Accountancy, once the program is at maximum capacity. Admission decisions to the Master's of Accountancy will be made by the Master's of Accountancy Admissions Committee, whose members are the College of Business Graduate Program Director, the MAcc Coordinator, the Chair of the Accounting Department and two Accounting Department faculty.

  • International Student Requirements

    International student applications for College of Business graduate programs must be filed by April 1st with the Office of Graduate Studies. In addition to the standard admission requirements, international students must also complete the following:

    Step 1
    International students from non-English speaking countries must submit satisfactory scores on either the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic, FLS International Language Center, ELS Language Centers, TOEIC, CEFR, or SLEP exams.

    Step 2
    All applicants for admission must meet the following requirements:

    • Verification of adequate financial support from parents or sponsors, including the amount and length of time funds will be provided.
    • Verification of sponsor's ability to provide support from a financial institution where funds are on deposit.
    • Submission of one letter of recommendation (true letters preferred over the PDF form).
    • Submit Official transcripts: Bachelor's degree and any institutions attended since that time. Official transcripts are sent directly from the institution to Tennessee Tech, not submitted by the student. International students may submit attested transcripts.
    • Submit Student Health Form. The following vaccinations are required:TWO doses of the MMR vaccine
    • TWO doses of the Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine
    • Negative result on a TB skin test. Test must be taken within 6 months prior to registration.
    • Non-immigrant students already in the U.S. must submit the following additional documents:
      • Photocopy of passport
      • Photocopy visa
      • Photocopy of I-94
      • Photocopy of all previously issued I-20s
      • Resident Alien

    A lawful permanent resident of the United States (holder of a "green card") may be required to take the English Placement Test or other tests to determine proficiency in English and the necessity for taking courses in English.

    Step 3
    All application materials become the property of the University and will not be returned to the applicant regardless of whether admission is approved or denied.
