Transfer Student & Change of Major Information
A "transfer" student is one who has completed twenty-four college-level semester hours of degree credit or the equivalent at another college(s) AFTER their high school graduation. If you are not transferring this amount of credit then you will be evaluated with a fitting combination of freshman and transfer admission requirements.
All students graduating since 1989 will need to show proof of passing at least 12 of the 14 core academic units or completing a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution.
- 2.0 in last full-time semester (or last 12 hours for part-time students) AND
- 2.0 overall GPA (includes all previous coursework [except developmental courses] at all institutions) AND
- 2.0 overall GPA in all coursework taken at TTU.
An applicant under disciplinary suspension or probation will not be considered for admission until a satisfactory statement has been furnished by the former college and approval given by the Admissions Review Committee of Tennessee Technological University.
Additional Requirements for Certain Programs
A few programs at Tennessee Tech have additional admission requirements for admission. If a student meets the general admission requirements, but not the requirements specific this program, they will be admitted to the Student Success Program (also known as General Curriculum or General Health Studies). Again, these additional requirements only affect which academic advisor you have, not which classes you will take.
2 + 2 Applicants
Students who are participating in the 2+2 Program through the Office of Teacher Education will also need to meet admission requirements for this department.
What if I Don't Meet the Minimum Requirements for Admission?
Students who do not meet all of the requirements listed above may submit a letter to the Admissions Review Committee explaining their circumstances. These situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
