The College of Business

Chair Welcomes New Dean

Dr. Robert E. Niebuhr has been named dean of the College of Business Administration, beginning July 2, 2001. He and his wife, Kitty, are moving from Alabama where he has been a faculty member at the College of Business at Auburn University for the past twenty-four years. Dr. Niebuhr served Auburn as head of the Management Department and as interim dean. Other roles included executive director of the College’s Corporate Relations and also the director of the Physicians Executive MBA Program.

Prior to beginning his academic career at Auburn, Dr. Niebuhr worked as a metallurgical engineer for ten years and then completed his doctorate in management at Ohio State University. He obtained his B.S. from the University of Cincinnati and his M.S. from Ohio State.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to build on the strong foundation already established here at the College. It is obvious that Bob Bell, Virginia Moore, and the rest of the faculty and staff have provided the programs and infrastructure from which we can continue to progress.”

Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Marvin Barker remarked, “Based on his many years of experience, we expect Dr. Niebuhr to provide excellent leadership immediately. Seldom have I seen such united preference for a candidate as we saw from the committee, the faculty, the staff, and the administration for Dr. Niebuhr.”
