This list of Frequently Asked Questions is available to help our campus community navigate the processes and protocols for COVID-19. This list will be regularly updated.
- » I have had close contact to someone with COVID. I have gotten a test, but not yet
received the results. Do I still go to class or stay isolated?
If your COVID-19 vaccine is up-to-date, you do not have to isolate unless you develop symptoms. If you have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, you need to isolate until you receive your test results.
- » My roommate has tested positive for COVID. What should I do?
Report your close contact to Tech Health Services through the COVID-19 webpage at tntech.edu/reportcovid. Get tested as soon as possible. If your COVID-19 vaccine is up-to-date, you do not need to isolate unless you have symptoms. If your COVID-19 vaccine are not up-to-date, you should isolate until you receive your test results. The Office of Residential Life has set aside some living spaces for quarantining on-campus students. Also, once a positive case is confirmed, the Office of Residential Life will notify campus Facilities to clean the affected area.
- » I’ve tested positive and live in a dorm on campus. Do I quarantine here, or do I have
to go home? If I quarantine here, how do I eat?
If going home is an option, that is the first choice. The Office of Residential Life has set aside some spaces on campus for quarantining students. Arrangements will be made through Residential Life and Campus Dining for delivery of meals during quarantine.
- » Does Tech Health Services have the rapid COVID-19 test?
Yes, rapid antigen tests are available through Tech Health Services. If you feel that you have COVID-19 or that you’ve been exposed through close contact, call (931) 372-3320 to schedule an appointment to be tested.
- » Do I have to contact all my professors to let them know I have tested positive?
Once you confirm you have tested positive and made that report to Tech Health Services, then Health Services notifies Student Affairs, which will provide an excused absence to your professors.
- » I would prefer to take my classes online until the COVID-19 situation goes away. Can
I do that?
At this time, only requests for accommodations to study remotely due to specific health reasons are being accepted. If you need to request academic accommodations related to a specific health condition, contact the Accessible Education Center at (931) 372-6119.
- » Once I’ve tested positive, how long is it before I can go back to class?
Per new CDC guidance, a student may return to regular activities (including classes) on Day Six of their isolation/quarantine period if they have symptom improvement and no fever for 24 hours. The student should also wear a mask on days six through 10. Tech cannot mandate wearing masks, but it is strongly encouraged for the health and safety of the campus community.

- » Do I need to self-isolate after personal domestic travel?
Consistent with CDC recommendations, it is recommended that you self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- » Do I need to self-isolate after international or cruise travel?
People who decide to go on a cruise should get tested 1–3 days before their trip and 3–5 days after their trip, regardless of vaccination status or symptoms.
For international travel, if you are NOT vaccinated and up to date with your COVID-19 Vaccines
- Stay home and self-quarantine for a full 5 days after travel.

For ALL travelers:
- Get tested with a COVID-19 viral test 3-5 days after travel.
- Find a U.S. COVID-19 testing location near you at https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/community-based-testing-sites/index.html.
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- Follow all state, tribal, local, and territorial, recommendations or requirements after travel.
- Stay home and self-quarantine for a full 5 days after travel.
