About Dr. Baucum

Matt Baucum completed his PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 2021. Prior to completing his PhD, Dr. Baucum received his Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California, where he published research on public perceptions of risk and disaster events. He has also worked as a market researcher at both AT&T and Honda, and understands the real-world barriers that students may face in applying analytics to business problems. Dr. Baucum’s primary research interest is how analytics can be used to foster healthier, stronger communities. His dissertation focused on how machine learning can improve healthcare by making treatment decisions more efficient and more personalized. He has worked with the foster care system in both a volunteer and professional capacity, and is keenly interested in how policy makers can use analytics to more effectively support disadvantaged communities.
