Steve Benne, instructor of double bass, earned his master’s degree in double bass performance from the University of Indiana at Bloomington, studying with Lawrence Hurst and Stuart Sankey. He is the principal double bassist with the Knoxville Symphony and premiered the Harbison Concerto for Bass Viol with the Knoxville Symphony as a member of the consortium of bassists dedicated to premiering the work. Formerly with the New American Chamber Orchestra, Mr. Benne has performed with the Aspen Music Festival, the Grec Festival and the Priory of Chirens Chamber Music Festival.
