Music has been a vibrant and successful program at Tennessee Tech since 1915. A degree in music education was first offered in 1948 when the Department of Music was created within the College of Education. Today, music is one of TTU's most renowned programs.
Music majors at Tennessee Tech pursue the Bachelor of Music degree in one of two concentrations that include specialized options of study:
- Music Education students choose either the Vocal or Instrumental path.
- Music Performance students select Composition, Instrumental, Jazz, Music Business, Piano, or Vocal.

Through the ensemble program, Tennessee Tech students have many opportunities to make music in concert and jazz bands, orchestras, choral ensembles, and the Golden Eagle Marching Band. All groups perform regularly on campus and often represent the university at regional and national music conferences.
