Tennessee Tech Undergrads to Participate In Summer Research
Tennessee Solar Conversion using Outreach, Research and Education (TN-SCORE), an alternative energy research foundation, funded by the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). Each summer, TN-SCORE offers Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU’s), opportunities for undergraduates to collaborate in research groups. The REU is an 8-10 week program, and includes a $4000 stipend, housing and supplies, with separate research teams at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
This summer, three Tennessee Tech undergrads will be participating in REU teams; Jacob Jordan, at UT- Knoxville, and Eric Gilmer and Shadi Saeed at Vanderbilt. The three core research areas within TN-SCORE include advanced solar conversion and innovation, components and devices for energy storage and conversion, and nanostructures for enhancing energy efficiency. Jordan and Gilmer are both Chemical Engineering majors, while Saeed is a Mechanical Engineering major.
