Student involvement in the American Concrete Institute has prompted the organization to rank Tennessee Tech University as an “Outstanding University.”
This is the first year the institute has created the lists, which are based on student involvement in the organization, which offers free online membership to students, and community outreach, among other criteria.
TTU is one of 15 universities to be given the title of “outstanding,” including Texas A&M University, Villanova University and Iowa State University.
“It puts our name out there as one of the most active universities in the area of concrete materials but also the structural engineering work we do,” said Ben Mohr, associate professor of civil engineering at TTU. “It could potentially lead to increased student interest and possible enrollments.”
TTU has received a banner to put up on campus, was mentioned in Concrete International magazine and recognized at the institute’s spring 2011 convention.
