Senior Capstone Projects

The Senior Capstone Projects in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering Technology (SPECSET) at Tennessee Tech integrates the phases of real-world engineering design project from concept to the final client presentation. Under the direction of a faculty advisor(s), student teams work with an industry client to solve real-world engineering problems. SPECSET provides a meaningful, hands-on undergraduate experience for undergraduates.

In the College of Engineering at Tennessee Tech University, undergraduate students demonstrate their knowledge of engineering, computer science and engineering technology through capstone design projects. The capstone project is an integral part of our students’ education, as well as an assessment tool for transforming engineering education to meet the needs of the profession. As required by ABET, students participate in groups of four-to-six during their final curriculum year. Typically, the project involves conceptualization, design, analysis, prototype fabrication and testing, culminating in a functional engineering design solution.

Sponsors receive our best and brightest students to work on a project vital to them. Depending on the programs within the college and the scope of the objective, projects may range from one to two semesters. The sponsor’s obligations include defining the problem, providing necessary data and monitoring progress. The sponsor’s mentoring ensures that solutions meet or exceed their expectations. Please contact me at (931) 372-3790, or by email, msundaram@tntech.edu, to match the respective engineering program with your company’s needs.
