MA in Ceramics, Montclair State University; MFA in Printmaking, Papermaking and Book Arts, University of Georgia; PhD in Art, University of Georgia. Carol’s award-winning ceramics, fiber art, glass, jewelry, and photographs are widely exhibited. She taught ceramics, photography, jewelry, and printmaking before becoming SACD’s Art Historian in 1994. Carol’s studio background provides technical insight, allowing her to present a full picture of the evolution of art and craft history in her lectures and publications.
Carol was born in the US, but has also lived in Portugal, Guatemala, and Mexico. She worked with a weaving cooperative as a Peace Corps volunteer 1976-80, then wrote Maya Hair Sashes Backstrap Woven in Jacaltenango, Guatemala, a bilingual book. She also authored three books about tapestry crochet.
Carol has interviewed and photographed craftspeople around the world – many of whom are featured on her web pages. Her research has been supported by numerous institutions, including Fulbright, NEA, and the Smithsonian. She presents papers at international conferences and her publications can be found in both scholarly journals and the popular press.
