Our mission in Tennessee Tech’s School of Art, Craft & Design is to prepare BFA majors for careers in visual art studios, design practice and art education. Our students discover their creative potential, learn studio skills and design processes, acquire cultural knowledge, and develop problem-solving and critical abilities through varied visual art experiences.
The nationally recognized faculty of art education, art history, art foundations, design and painting offer Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrations in art education, design and painting in the studios, classrooms and offices located in Foundation Hall and the Bryan Fine Arts Building on the main campus.
In addition to exhibitions in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery and visiting artist workshops, Art, Craft & Design students are increasingly involved in interdisciplinary programs developing multidisciplinary projects in entrepreneurship and incorporating new technological resources such as the iCube.
A unique facet of the School of Art, Craft & Design is its satellite campus the Appalachian Center for Craft, which is dedicated to promoting excellence in American craft by providing access to the highest quality professional education in studio crafts.
The renowned faculty for clay, fibers glass, metals and wood are fully committed to their work both as teachers and as artists, providing unsurpassed studio instruction in extraordinary studios, in a community arts context that offers artists in residence, workshops, exhibitions, outreach programs and much more.
