Published: Tue Dec 23, 1997he College of Agriculture and Human Ecology at Tennessee Technological University will enhance its student laboratories and recruitment programs thanks to a contribution by alumni W. Clyde and Ogeal H. Webster. The Websters recently donated $10,000 to the college's Dean's Fund.
"I am so grateful for the Webster's generosity in making this significant gift to the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology," Dean Don Elkins said. "Their donation will enable us to meet some critical needs by purchasing new computer equipment for our student laboratories and making some technology upgrades. Also, it will help fund our newest initiatives: the Agriculture/Human Ecology Ambassadors, our student recruitment team, and the Alumni/Alumnae Recruitment Team."
Webster received his bachelor's degree in agronomy from Tennessee Tech in 1948. He received his master's from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in extension methods in 1964. He worked for the University of Tennessee extension service for 40 years. During this time, he served on county levels and ended his career with his last eight years as Community Development Specialist for 13 counties in District IV. During his career, he served as president of the Tennessee Association of County Agents and Specialists, president of the Hartsville Lions Club and chairman of the Trousdale County Industrial Commission. Among other honors, Webster received the Tennessee Tech Outstanding Agricultural Distinguished Alumni Award in 1983. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Agricultural Foundation for Tennessee Tech.
The Websters have a long tradition of university support. Ogeal, a retired science teacher at Gallatin Junior High School, received her bachelor's degree from Tennessee Tech in 1946. The Webster's children, Don and Melinda, attended Tennessee Tech. Don earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business.
