The Advanced EMT course is a new course based on the National EMS Standards adopted by the State of TN. The primary focus of the course is to train the EMT in providing basic and limited advanced medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This course adds to the knowledge learned in the EMT course. It includes IV administration, some advanced medication administration and various patient assessments. To be able to get employment with an Ambulance Service and work on an Ambulance this course is necessary. It is 1 semester in length but cannot be taken unless the EMT course has been successfully completed. There cannot be more than 120 days lapse between courses. If the 120 days have lapsed the student must hold an EMT license issued by the State of Tennessee.

Lecture Hours: Monday and Wednesday Nights from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Clinical Hours: Minimum of 60 hours in a Hospital and minimum of 60 hours at various Ambulance Services. Dates are to be scheduled with the clinical coordinator. If the student is coming from another program a clinical packet will need to be picked up from the EMS Program Coordinator at time of approval for registration.
Prerequisites: Be currently licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Tennessee or have successfully completed an Emergency Medical Technician course within 120 days of beginning the Advanced EMT course and have successfully completed a Tennessee EMS Board approved EMT competency written and practical examination.
If you are registering and have taken the TTU EMT course another medical statement will be necessary. This will be handed out at time of registration.
Must hold a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card or equivalent from a State of TN EMS Board approved CPR course.
Tuition: $1500.00 Fee includes 1 clinical shirt and liability insurance but does not include textbooks, rest of the clinical uniform, TTU parking permit, student photo ID, testing fees, any cost for immunization shots, cost of background check or drug screen. The fee for this course must be paid at time of registration.
All classes are currently held in the Jere Whitson Building on the quadrangle of TTU in room JW131H. However, this location may change so confirm the location before the first night of class.
Must see Dennis Parker, the EMS Program Coordinator, for approval to enroll in this course. Please make an appointment to see him prior to registration. Call the office at (931) 372-3396 or (931) 372-3120 to make an appointment. When the appointment is made, come to Jere Whitson Rm 131F for approval and registration will be in Jere Whitson Rm 131E.
