New at the Library!
What's Going on in the Library? (Summer 2014)
In 2011 a transformation took place in the Volpe library. A Learning Commons was created on the second floor with new spaces and services. Since that time we have seen a 78% increase in the number of people coming to the library during the academic year.
This summer will be busy at the Volpe Library as we continue to create spaces and services that support and enhance learning at TTU. On the first floor we are welcoming into the building the Teaching and Learning Center. The mission of the center is to help faculty keep up with the latest technologies and methods to improve learning at TTU.
Also on the first floor the library is partnering with IT Services to create a Digital Media Creation Lab. This will be a “hands on” space with the latest media creation tools. Students will have the opportunity to create projects using various media such as audio and video.
The third floor is also the scene of transformation. As announced in the President’s Blog on April 8:
“The Volpe Library third floor is on the verge of becoming home to an innovation and discovery center that will change the way our university prepares and teaches students. We don’t have a name for it yet, but the goal is set: Create an open space that focuses on innovation, discovery and entrepreneurship. When you are there, your role won’t be confined by student, faculty or staff status. You can choose to be an innovator, inventor, entrepreneur, collaborator, mentor or partner.” This new discovery center will be located in the B wing. In the A wing the faculty study rooms will be removed to provide additional quiet study space on the floor.
