Special education is the study of the best ways to teach and improve the lifestyles
of children, youth and adults with disabilities. Students pursuing this degree will
earn teacher licensure for grades K-12 with a focus on instructional strategies and
methods relevant for elementary, middle and high school education. The comprehensive
concentration in the field of special education focuses on working with students with
severe to profound disabilities, which includes those with learning or cognitive disabilities
as well as those with behavioral, emotional or physical impairments. The Special Education
curriculum is designed to provided graduates with the needed foundation of teaching
skills based on the latest in instructional theory, coupled with the broad knowledge
(Reading, Math, Science, History, etc.) needed to teach all ages.
