The Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants has named Dan Fesler, professor and chair of the accounting department at Tennessee Tech University, as the winner of the 2013 Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award.

The honor recognizes a full-time or retired accounting educator who has made significant contributions through teaching as well as through active involvement in the profession.

Fesler is vice-president of the TSCPA’s Upper Cumberland chapter. Fesler has served three years on the TSCPA board of directors and has played a significant role in the working relationship between the university’s accounting department and the TSCPA.

Fesler is a 1971 graduate of Watertown High School in Wilson County and an alumnus of Middle Tennessee State University. He earned his doctoral degree at Mississippi State University. He has been at TTU since 1986.

In the past 20 years, the Educational & Memorial Foundation of the TSCPA has provided more than $2 million in scholarships to Tennessee accounting students. In the last three years, more TSCPA scholarships have been awarded to TTU students than any other Tennessee university. TTU students have been awarded 100 TSCPA scholarships. This year, TSCPA has awarded TTU students $58,750 in scholarships.
TSCPA is the state professional organization of CPAs with more than 9,000 members in all areas of public practice, government, education, business and industry. The Upper Cumberland chapter is one of eight chapters across the state and has nearly 200 members in 14 counties. TSCPA is headquartered in Brentwood.
