The all-student Tennessee Tech University Orchestra will perform a Beethoven symphony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Wattenbarger Auditorium on the TTU campus.

The 45-member orchestra, conducted by TTU music professor Dan Allcott, will play Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.

“Of all the orchestras that I get to conduct during the course of my year, this group holds a special place in my artistic heart,” Allcott said. “There simply is nothing as thrilling as helping young people discover their ability to make music.”

The orchestra is comprised mostly of music majors. Some will go on to seek professional performance opportunities and others will become music teachers. Other ensemble members are engineering, history and chemistry majors.

“It’s really a melting pot of some of the finest students in our university, coming together for one purpose – to experience great music from the performing side,” Allcott said. “The residual benefit is that their peers and our community get to hear them do it.”

The concert is free and open to the public.
