August at Tennessee Tech University means more than just the beginning of another academic year — it also means it's time for the annual TTU Pride Days celebration.
Begun last year as a community appreciation event, TTU Pride Days is a mutually beneficial partnership that honors the businesses and citizens who support the university, and it will run this year from Aug. 15 - 31.
"What better way to welcome new and returning students and faculty each year than to introduce them to the companies and the people who support them?" said Monica Greppin, director of Public Affairs.
Participation is open to everyone, she added. "TTU Pride isn't just for alumni or students. It's for everyone who lives in Putnam County and our surrounding communities, and it's for those who live hundreds of miles away but still hold a special place in their hearts for Tennessee Tech University."
Community businesses are encouraged to participate in TTU Pride Days by putting up decorations in the purple and gold university colors and to offer special discounts to customers wearing those colors.
"Put a message on your marquee that says 'Show your TTU Pride!' and encourage your staff to attend sporting events, concerts, plays and other performances on campus," Greppin said.
TTU Pride merchandise — which includes yard signs, pennants, buttons and window decals — will be available by Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Roaden University Center information desk, Hooper Eblen Center ticket office and the Leslie Town Centre/Chamber of Commerce.
"In appreciation for letting us know about your participation, we'll post the name of your business and promotional offers on our TTU Pride web site, student bulletin display and campus-wide e-mail distribution," Greppin said.
