This fall’s Center Stage series at Tennessee Tech will bring a wide variety of speakers, performers and artists to Cookeville.
The 19 events scheduled through November include noted author Teju Cole, speaker Michel Chikwanine and Seraph Brass.
Admission to Center Stage events is free unless otherwise noted. Tech students are given priority if seating is limited.
Speaker Michel Chikwanine (Oct. 9) spent much of his childhood in the midst of the devastating Great War of Africa, being forced to serve as a child soldier. Chikwanie uses his experiences to inspire people to believe in their ability to make a difference and leaves audiences with a new perspective on life and a sense of hope.
Award-winning author, art historian and photographer Teju Cole, whose novella Every Day is for the Thief was recognized as a book of the year by the New York Times, will present a lecture on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
Seraph Brass, a dynamic brass quintet from a roster of America’s top female brass players, has toured internationally and is committed to engaging audiences with captivating programing that includes original transcriptions, newly commissioned works and well-known classics.
A complete schedule for the Fall 2018 series is at tntech.edu/centerstage.
Supported by student fees, the Center Stage series presents lectures, concerts, exhibits, dramatic performances and other events that promote greater appreciation of the fine arts and better understanding of diverse ideas and world cultures.
