Actress, comedian, disability advocate and writer Maysoon Zayid will be in Tennessee Tech University’s Derryberry Auditorium Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
Zayid is currently a guest comedian in residence at Arizona State University and is the co-founder and co-executive producer of the New York Arab American Comedy Festival and The Muslim Funny Fest.
She was a full-time on-air contributor to Countdown with Keith Olbermann and a columnist for The Daily Beast. She has most recently appeared on Oprah Winfrey Network’s In Deep Shift, 60 Minutes, and VICE. As a professional comedian, she has performed in top New York clubs and has toured extensively at home and abroad. She was a headliner on the Arabs Gone Wild Comedy Tour and The Muslims Are Coming Tour.
Maysoon had a feature role in Adam Sandler’s You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and has appeared on Comedy Central, PBS, CNN, HBO, MTV and BBC. She is also the founder of Maysoon’s Kids, a scholarship and wellness program for disabled refugee children.
“An Evening with Maysoon Zayid” is a Center Stage event made possible by the university’s general education fund and is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Tech Women’s Center, Office of Mulitcultural Affairs and Disability Services. It is free and open to the public.
