Published: Wed Nov 15, 2006Tom McMahon, a glass major, works in the “hot shop” at the Appalachian Center for Craft. Demonstrations like this and other techniques, such as doll making, wheel throwing, weaving, woodcarving and silk scarf marbling, will be featured at the Craft Center’s annual Holiday Festival, set for Nov. 24, 25 and 26 — the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving. In addition to fascinating demonstrations and sales of hand-made ornaments and one-of-a-kind craft items for any budget, the event also features showcase exhibitions and live music. Best of all, admission is free. The Craft Center is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). Go south toward Smithville on Highway 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge.
